Computer Training Center
The URDT Computer Training Center provides the only public Internet access for 50 miles around in an area serving 2 million people. It currently has 10 computers, three with Internet access. Nearly 500 people a year use the Computer Center.
The Computer Center provides the first-ever exposure to computers for most of its visitors. Through access and training, the Center makes computer literacy possible for nearly a hundred new people each year.
As users become more proficient in their skills, they use the Center to gain knowledge of and direct access to the broader world through the Internet and e-mail, conduct research for school projects or civic affairs, and develop highly marketable computer skills.
This kind of exposure, training and confidence-building has a tremendous impact on youth in terms of their aspirations and where they can envision themselves in the world.
URDT views Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) as an important tool in rural development. We are currently seeking to develop and expand this programme.
